Internships

While we don’t require internships, they are strongly encouraged. Not only is it great for your resume, there is no better preparation than real world PR experience. Ideally, internships are paid, but unfortunately, many are not.

Either way, if you get an internship (congrats!), remember that you are able to “take” an internship for J-elective credit (J404). Technically you are allowed to take J404 for as many as 9 credits, but we strongly encourage you to limit to a standard course load of 4. If you’re interested in “taking” J404, follow these steps:

  1. Find a faculty member to serve as adviser for your internship (typically your assigned PR faculty adviser).
  2. Fill out this form, and have your adviser sign.
  3. Submit the signed form to SOJC student services (Allen Hall first floor, or pdf via email). Make sure your adviser has a copy as well.
  4. Be on the lookout for when you’ve been cleared to register for the credits.
